Restaurant History

In 2012, in its aim of creating opportunities through the tourism sector, the Social Planeterra Foundation created a community restaurant project, which shortly after, became what is now Parwa Restaurant. Huchuy Qosqo community welcomed the proposal from Planeterra with enthusiasm and commitment. In order to create a formal social business, the "Association Huchuy Qosqo" was formed. It is composed of families in the community and currently owns  the community restaurant.

The Planeterra Foundation and the community conceived the restaurant as a community entrepreneurship. This meant that profits would finance social projects for the community of Huchuy Qosqo. To date, they have developed numerous initiatives, such as a water project to supply a greater amount of drinking water to families in the community as well as the distribution of rainwater containers to face drought, the creation of a computer room and an organic garden to provide food to the restaurant, among others.

The restaurant building process was conducted jointly by community members and professionals, using materials and techniques characteristic of the region, for example, the use of adobe and straw. When construction was completed, a process of training of some members of the Huchuy Qosqo community started. They would be part of the future professional team in Parwa Restaurant. Thanks to this training program, we now have a team of highly qualified professionals at the restaurant, both in the kitchen area and in the business field (administration, taxation, accounting, management, etc.). After completing this process, in March 2014, the official opening of Parwa Restaurant took place.

The balance of the first year was a success, reaching over 15,000 people. Today, Parwa Restaurant is fully and independently managed by the Huchuy Qosqo community and continues to be successful.

In short, Parwa Restaurant, has been a great stimulant for the Huchuy Qosqo community. Besides providing major improvements, it has allowed the empowerment of a large number of women of the community, giving them a leading role in the development of their community and allowing them to contribute to the family economy. For many of the women who are part of the professional team of Parwa Restaurant, it is the first time they work with tourists and that they use professional equipment of a professional restaurant.
